Starting 2011 Right: Resurrecting the Happiness Project

2010 has ended and to be perfectly honest, I was more than ready to say goodbye. It had its awesome moments, don’t get me wrong, but they didn’t really outweigh all the not-so-awesome moments of the year.

Bring on 2011!

I have a good feeling about this coming year. I can’t really explain it. Yes, the end of December is always filled with resolution discussions, goal setting and the mindset of “this is the year I will (fill in the blank).” And I go through it too. But already I feel different about this year.

It’s going to be a good year, a strong year. A year that come 12 months from today, I’m sitting at my laptop thinking “what could possibly top the past 12 months?” I can feel it.

So, to start it all off right I’m resurrecting the Happiness Project. You know that thing that I started that I never actually followed through with? Yes, that. I spent quite a bit of time a few weeks ago reviewing my goals that I initially set, re-ordering the things I would focus in each month and in general getting really serious about changing my life for the better.

It was a great way to spend a weekend. And that feeling hasn’t gone away yet.

So today starts a new chapter! In January, I will be focusing on my health. Here are the goals that I want to focus on for the next 31 days:

1. Develop a healthy eating plan and include the family. Track our progress.
2. Get more rest. In bed by 10:00 pm on a regular basis!
3. Exercise at least three times at week for at least 30 minutes per workout.
4. Get back into journaling
5. Get back into meditating
6. Develop a general awareness of my health
7. Drink at least 64 oz. of water each day
8. Create at least one thing a week (emotional health)
9. Get kids involved in physical activities

Note that I did NOT say “Lose 10 pounds” and that is totally intentional. The focus here is not a diet. It’s a complete lifestyle change. And I have a little tool that I’m going to be using to track my progress. Each day, I’ll note that goals that I completed and the ones that I still need to work on. From there, I’ll be able to assess how I’m doing on a daily basis.

I have big plans for 2011 and it’s going to be killer. This blog will be my journal so that when others say “I could never do that” I can point them to a place to show them someone who did and how they did it. I’m just a tad bit excited about it all to be honest.
